Canyoning at Cradle Mountain – Adrenaline Adventure!
If you are looking for an exciting, active adventure in the outdoors while at Cradle Mountain National Park, a canyoning tour is a great way to go.
Owned and operated by two Tasmanians who have worked as river guides throughout the world for the last decade, Cradle Mountain Canyons (CMC) is Tasmania’s first and only business offering guided canyoning tours. The tours run on the Dove River, within five kilometres of Cradle Mountain.
CMC offer two tours. The Dove Canyon tour is a full day, action packed adventure involving abseiling and waterfall jumps in the heart of a 50 metre deep quartzite canyon. This option is not for the faint hearted. Participants need to be physically fit, have an ability to swim and great sense of adventure.
The Dove Canyon is the new must do at Cradle Mountain and is set to become an iconic drawcard for visitors to Tasmania.
For those who want to experience canyoning, but aren’t sure if they are up to the rigours of the Dove Canyon, the good news is that Cradle Mountain Canyons offer another tour designed as an introduction to canyoning. The Lost World Canyon tour lasts three hours in total – about an hour of which is spent in the water.
This experience involves a number of small rapids and some optional jump rocks for those who want to spice things up a bit. Kids as young as eight are welcome on this tour and it provides a great opportunity to experience nature from a unique point of view.
Cradle Mountain Canyons is committed to looking after the environment it uses for its tours. A donation from every tour sold goes to Wildcare Inc, the largest and fastest growing incorporated environmental action group in Tasmania.

Oooh looks a bit too adventurous for me… waterfall jumps? Yeah, I’ll pass personally, but I’ll keep this in mind for my more adventurous friends
The boardwalk trackbuilders told me about this new venture when I was at Cradle in November. It sounded like it was going to be fun, but this looks awesome! Way to go, Tassie!
It is awesome. Check out our website. We have tours for all. Each tour has a sneak preview of what goes on. See the youtube videos at the bottom of the tour screen. Woohoo!!!
