Enchanted Walk – perfection at Cradle Mountain

23 March 2011 No Comment

Enchanted Walk at Cradle Mountain in North-West Tasmania. The Enchanted Walk is a lovely 30 minute short walk that is perfect to get a taste of what Cradle Mountain National Park has to offer.

This enchanting and gentle little walk has everything!

It begins at the bridge near the National Park entrance, and leads you through a misty wonderland of scenic waterfalls cascading down into dark, deep pools, then out onto button grass plains to see the resident wombat, before plunging you into the ancient wonderment of the dense, old-growth rainforest, and finally throwing you back out the light at Cradle Mountain Lodge – where it is very nice to stop in at the Tavern Bistro, and sit by the crackling fire while enjoying a hot snack, or even some fresh Tasmanian oysters, from the bar!

Although the paths in the Enchanted Walk are mostly dry underfoot, you should always wear sturdy shoes or boots on walks at Cradle Mountain.

Be sure you are dressed to suit the day’s weather before heading off and take a small day backpack with you, stuffed with a drink and some snacks, a sun hat and sunscreen.  If the weather is anything but sunny and clear, toss in a warm jumper and a hat or beanie – and you’re ready to go!

Always check the official forecast at the Cradle Mountain National Park Visitor Centre, just inside the Park, before setting out on your walk.  Oh, and don’t forget to take your camera!
