Snow at Cradle Mountain – Winter arrives
Snow can arrive at any time at Cradle Mountain and the dumps can be huge! This year winter arrived with a vengeance in late May with a terrific fall of snow.
Most Cradle Mountain accommodation has great heating and the larger hotels like Cradle Mountain Lodge have wonderful open fires and cozy lounges. Perfect snow viewing conditions while enjoying a coffee or glass of wine.
It’s when you plan to explore the natural wonders of the National Park in winter you need to be prepared for snow and cold conditions.
If you are visiting Cradle Mountain or Tasmania in the cooler months make sure you pack appropriate clothing and footwear so you can enjoy the outdoors.

The following are a couple of (admittedly family style) videos of snow at Cradle Mountain in mid May. How beautiful and fresh is the snow?
This video (with a few shots of the car ceiling) shows the fresh snow on the trip into the National Park. Magic!
Remember, take your time and be careful driving in snow. There are still native animals about, keep a lookout for them and take care.
