Meringue Pie - Island Menu - Tasmanian Gourmet Food

Island Menu is a Tasmanian based blog featuring recipes cooked, written and photographed by Samuel Shelley and myself (Catherine Miller). We are not trained chefs, far from it, but we both love cooking and taking photo’s. Bringing the two together has been a really fantastic experience over the last few months.

The strong focus of Island Menu (and the reason for the name) is our intention to use and feature fresh, local and seasonal Tasmanian ingredients, sharing with our readers the process of sourcing them. This can be as simple as going to Salamanca market on Saturday or the Farm Gate Market on a Sunday for fresh vegetables and fruit, or as wild and woolly as Sam travelling on a boat to Pedra Branca to fish for striped trumpeter!

Both Sam and I feel we are so fortunate to live in Tasmania where there is such a great variety of produce available: fantastic cheese, our own grown flour, fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood… you name it and no doubt its grown or produced here. It is a beautiful place and through our photographs hope to share that with people in other parts of Australia and around the world, perhaps encouraging them to visit, or at least look to see what is available locally in their area.

Our recipes on Island Menu , we hope, are simple yet full of flavour and we try to present them in our photographs in a way that is both sincere and honest. Cooked in our own kitchens and mostly photographed on our own dining tables (although in summer we are hoping to explore the outdoors a little more!).

Over the last few winter months we have featured our favourite seasonal produce: ocean trout, striped trumpeter, pumpkins and winter veggies, beautiful apples and rhubarb to name just a few. Now the season is changing we are really looking forward to exploring this island a little more and seeing what the sunshine brings.

Please take the time to immerse yourself in Island Menu . Not only will you learn about some of the wonderful produce that is available in Tasmania, you will also be taken on a journey of discovery around the State. The recipes, photographs and stories shared on this site are awe inspiring. Congratulations to Samuel and Catherine, keep up the great work!

You can also follow Island Menu on Facebook, it will be a delightful journey.
