Going to the Mountain and we’re… gonna get married?!

Wedding Cradle Mountain Tasmania

This fortnight on Cradle Mountain has been a hectic one to say the least. The oft-fabled ‘Season’, as it is known in the hospitality world, officially started on the 1st of October and as a result, Cradle Mountain is no longer a small village but a bustling metropolis (slight exaggeration, but it is getting busier by the minute. Hot tip: book in advance!).

We have had some stunning and dramatic weather in the past week, ranging from perfectly clear skies over the weekend to a surprise snow fall 2 days later (Please refer to my previous article ‘Whatever the Weather’ for an explanation on why this is not surprising). We now have almost daily tour group arrivals, most of the activities on offer by local businesses are up and running again, and as if all this unpredictability and changes to routine weren’t enough, we welcome in the most unpredictable season of all: Wedding Season!

This fortnight on Cradle, we are feeling the love.

Spring/summer brings the brides (and bridezillas) out in full force on CradleMountain. Of course, tourism and hospitality are the main industries in our area, and with the magical scenery and high-quality venues, Cradle makes perfect sense as an off-the-beaten-track-but-still-classy wedding destination.

And it’s not a well kept secret anymore.

Part of my role is to co-ordinate all events for the property, including weddings, and I have to say, completely without bias of course, that bride-and-grooms-to-be are spoilt for choice if they decide on Cradle Mountain as their wedding destination.

With 2 hotels equipped with first-class Conference & Banqueting facilities, expert Food & Beverage staff wherever you go, plenty of extra accommodation for as many people as you know, and one of the most dazzling and sought-after photographic backdrops in the world right at our backdoor, it is really no wonder to me that the wedding market is alive and well in our little piece of paradise.

And so, for the next couple of months at least, Cradle Mountain National Park will be positively swarming with white dresses and black suits, and busy Mothers-of-the-Bride (again, slight exaggeration, but you catch my drift). Our magnificent mountain will once again dutifully pose for photographs, obedient as always, and we will all work our hardest to ensure that each happy couple’s special day is the best of their lives!

Weddings never fail to deliver those warm and fuzzy ‘I Love My Job’ moments. In fact, our next one is little more than 2 weeks away, and let me tell you, it is going to be one for the books! This day has been over a year in the making, and perfection must be delivered. (Think petit gateaux, red carpet, mirrors as table runners, show cars being held in the General Manager’s garage…I can’t wait!)

So for the next fortnight, with all my fingers and toes crossed, I will wish for the weather to match my inner warm and fuzzies!
