Back in the 70s I did a uni vacation job with the NPAWS at Cradle – building tracks etc. I remember this guy who was setting off on the Overland with a pack of sandwiches and wearing flip-flops. We gave him the reality check.

Love the photo in this blog – and happy your readers get a chance to see how much Robyn enjoyed her time there.
I did what I call the Cradle Mountain Walk too – back in 1979 – and the 6 days on the trail surviving on chocolate and peanut butter was one of the highlights of my three months in Australia too.

Hi Andrew,
No we have never been to Black Island but I actually double checked before I put up the shot as I had never heard of it either.

It is near Strahan (I hope!) This is the link to a map of it (as taken by the photographers camera GPS)

Hope this makes sense!

(The other answer is that the photographer called it “Black Island ” because it was black!)
